  • Registration of an imported vehicle

The vehicle must be registered in the name of the current owner. A shipper may import only one of each type of vehicle, trailer, or motorcycle. A person, who is in Poland full time or is returning from a temporary residence in a third country, must have been out of the EU for at least a year continuously. The car must have been used in the place of origin for at least 6 months. The vehicle imported must continue to be used in the same manner. Utility vehicles and company cars are not covered under the exemption.

You can register your vehicle at the district authority (starostwo powiatowe) or town council (urząd miasta) in the town where you are living or staying.

To register an imported vehicle you should submit key documents (as defined in the Documents required).

  • NB

Keep in mind that used vehicles imported into Poland must not be sold, rented, lent, or used by another person other than the registered owner for a year following the shipment. Failure to follow this rule will incur a Customs charge on the vehicle. The fine is computed according to the condition of the vehicle, its value, tariff rates, and duties in force on the day it was transferred.
